SOC 462 - Human Behavior and the Social Environment Credits: Three (3) Prerequisite: Completion of SOC/PSYC-341 and SOC/PSYC-342 This course is designed to introduce the student to theories, bodies of knowledge, and perspectives which provide critical insight into the behavior of individuals and the dynamics of social systems that are consonant with the person in environment definition of social work. The systems approach, symbolic interaction, social constructionism, and life cycle theory serve as the major theoretical perspectives employed to analyze interaction in the system levels through time.The system levels identified as having the greatest salience for social work are the individual, family, group, organization, and community. The critical perspective is used to intergrate theories and knowledge within the value and social justice orientation of social work Note: Admission to SLU MSW Bridge Program
