CORE 101 - Discovering the Community Credits: 3 CORE101 is the University Seminar which introduces freshmen students to higher education and helps them develop skills that will enhance their experience as college students. All seminars focus on three goals: critical thinking, community, and communication. To accomplish these goals, faculty engage students in a variety of activities, such as writing, oral presentations, research, critical reading, and conversations. In the seminars, freshmen are challenged to describe the values, beliefs and motivations that guide moral and ethical decisions and choices. They will also describe the relationship between experiences, viewpoints, family origins and social identities that can influence behavior. Lastly, they will engage in community issues civilly to demonstrate increased practice of inclusivity. Students choose from a wide selection of seminars in which they explore a theme through literature, art, music, films, or other media. Core Discovery Area: CORE
