Admission Requirements for All Undergraduate Options

The Catherine McAuley School of Nursing

The Nursing Profession combines the sciences, social sciences and the art and science of nursing to care for all patients, families and communities.   The program offerings at the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing range from freshman entry pre-licensure through the post-master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice.  Please see the following list for the programs offered by the School of Nursing.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredits the following programs: 

  • The Traditional, Fast Track, and Weekend College Pre-Licensure Baccalaureate Programs
  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion (RN-to-BSN) Program
  • The Master of Science in Nursing with concentrations in: Family Nurse Practitioner (on ground and online), Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (online only), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (on ground and online), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (online only) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (online only)
  • The  Post Masters Nurse Practitioner certification programs with concentrations in: Family Nurse Practitioner (on ground and online), Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (online only), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (on ground and online), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (online only) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (online only)
  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (online BSN to DNP programs) with concentrations in: Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • The post-master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (online)
  • The online DNP for nurses with non-advanced practice MSN degrees with concentrations in: Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

In compliance with the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, (Chapter 335 of the Missouri Statutes, section 335.066), nursing program applicants should be aware that the Missouri State Board of Nursing may refuse to issue a license for specific reasons related to moral turpitude, intemperate use of alcohol or drugs, or conviction of a crime.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing at Maryville University is educating students for a variety of nursing roles in the 21st century.  Consistent with the mission of the University and the Walker College of Health Professions, the nursing curriculum reflects a commitment to the integration of theory, research, evidence-based practice, and ethical/legal responsibility in caring for a diverse population.

Health and Other Special Requirements

The following requirements must be met prior to participating in required clinicals:

  • Physical Examination
  • Documentation of Immunization or Titer Immunity
    • Measles/Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Tetanus, Diphtheria and acellular Pertusis (Tdap)
    • Polio series completed
    • Varicella titer or Varicella vaccinations
    • Hepatitis B Vaccine Series or Declination
    • Flu Vaccine annual
    • TB-Tuberculin PPD test (documented 2-step initially, then annual)
  • Health insurance (copy of card required annually)
  • Maintenance of CPR Certification-American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider required
  • Urine Drug Screen (from the Maryville authorized lab)
  • Criminal Record Background checks from Maryville University’s authorized agency and signed release to clinical sites (possible checks include: state criminal checks, disqualification lists, sex offender lists, social security number, address and alias)
  • Fitting for a respiratory isolation device (i.e. N95 Mask) may be required by some clinical sites
  • A few hospitals in Missouri now require nicotine screenings for all new employees.  Therefore, it is anticipated that students may be excluded from some clinical sites based upon their use of nicotine
