The Actuarial Science Program at Maryville University is an Advanced Curriculum Actuarial Program of Society of Actuaries (UCAP-AC)

The undergraduate actuarial science program at Maryville University offers a curriculum that integrates the liberal arts with professional studies in business, data science, and mathematics, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Actuarial Science. Maryville University is one of the few colleges in the nation to offer a comprehensive degree program in Actuarial Science. The coursework and professional internship opportunities of the program are specifically designed to prepare students to pass the exams of the Society of Actuaries. The Actuarial Science major requires passing one of the Society of Actuary (SOA) exams.

Prospective applicants should have a solid background in mathematics and an interest in the world of business, risk management, and technology.

Actuarial Science as a Career

Actuarial science ranks high when compared to other careers judged on the following criteria: work environment, income, stress level, security, physical demands, and employment opportunities. Most actuaries work for insurance companies, consulting firms, the federal and state government, corporations, and universities.

Accelerated Master of Science in Actuarial Science

This unique option enables the Maryville undergraduate majoring in actuarial science to complete the master’s program in just one additional year. In this accelerated option, four courses (12 credits) taken during the senior year, as part of the undergraduate curriculum, also count toward the master’s degree. Students continue with 24 credits in the fifth year of study to complete the requirements of the master’s degree. Students with an Actuarial Science major, having 60 undergraduate credits, at least 30 of these from Maryville University, and GPA 3.6, can apply for Early Access to the Master of Science in Actuarial Science  program. No GRE or TOEFL is required for Maryville students entering the accelerated master’s program.

NonDegree Seeking Option for Actuarial Exams

Actuarial professionals may enroll in specific actuarial science classes to prepare for the series of professional actuarial exams. Students would be classified as nondegree seeking students for this purpose. Contact the Director of Mathematics, Actuarial Science and Data Science (gfan@maryville.edu) for further information.
