Women’s Studies is a multidisciplinary approach to the study of women’s experiences, roles and contributions to society. This program focuses on the study of gender within a framework of the cultural (re)production of gender, sexuality, and sexual difference that exists in cultures around the world. A specific focus of this program is on the intersection of gender with race, socioeconomic status, global issues, disability, family structures, and myriad other issues that contextualize and deepen the study of gender. These courses provide an engaging environment where students can read, talk, study, and conduct research on gender issues.

Requirements for the minor in women’s studies are SOC/WS 251/351 Introduction to Women’s Studies (3 credits), plus another 15 credit hours of  women’s studies courses, which may include independent study and/or internship courses approved by the Women’s Studies program coordinators. Most courses in the women’s studies program are cross-listed in the humanities and social sciences, but students can request that other relevant courses be counted toward this minor.
