Accounting Information Systems, B. S.

The Accounting Information Systems program meets the dynamic needs of students interested in careers in forensic accounting, IT audit, system assurance services and small business accounting services.  This degree gives the accounting student a competitive advantage in today’s global business environment with rapidly changing technology.

Students will develop skills that allow them to be involved in accounting system development, from planning and analysis to design and implementation.  Topics include accounting database design and development, business process mapping, accounting software, data analytics, internal control, cyber security, IT Audit and forensic accounting.

 

Business General Education Requirements (30 Credit Hours)


Humanities


5 courses from 3 of the following subject areas:

  • ENGL, HUM, PHIL, REL, Fine Arts, and Foreign Language

Social Science


1 course from the following subject areas:

  • GEOG, HIST, PSCI, PSYC, SOC or WGS

Natural Science


1 course from the following subject areas:

  • BIOL, CHEM, ENV, FRSC, PHYS, SCI, or SUST

General Electives (26 Credit Hours)


INTD-101 is a required course for freshmen.

CPA Examination Eligibility


To be eligible for the CPA Examination in Missouri and many other states, candidates are required to complete 150 credit hours of college level course work.  To satisfy the 150-hour requirement, Maryville University offers dual degrees in Accounting and Accounting Information Systems.  We also offer a Master of Science in Accounting.   To learn more about how you can obtain dual degrees in Accounting and Accounting Information Systems to meet the CPA Exam requirements, contact your advisor.  For additional information about  the CPA exam, go to www.cpa-exam.org.

 

Graduation Requirements


  • 128 credit hours minimum (last 30 hours in residency)
  • A minimum half the major credit hours in residency
  • A minimum half the minor credit hours in residency
  • ​60 credit hours must be completed at a 4-year institution
