Students who wish to teach language arts in grades 5-9 at the middle school level enter the middle-level teacher preparation program. The program provides a double major in education and English, involving extensive professional education courses in addition to content area coursework. All teacher preparation programs also involve extensive experiences in partner schools.
Prior to acceptance, transfer students may need to pass the MoGEA and/or MoCA at 220 or higher, depending on the number of credit hours they are able to transfer into Maryville. Please direct questions to Stacey Ruffin.
Teacher candidates wishing to teach English Language Arts at the middle school level earn a double major in English from Maryville University. Candidates must earn a minimum of 39 credit hours in English with 27 of those hours taken at the 300 level or above.
