The Sociology curriculum provides students with an understanding of the guiding sociological principles that influence human relationships in a complex society. The sociology program emphasizes applied, career-related experiences and an understanding of the pressing social issues and concerns of modern society. The curriculum is further molded by a desire to foster social awareness and a strong sense of civic and community responsibility. A minor is required for the B.A. in Sociology.

General Education Requirements:

- One course in art, music, performance, or aesthetics
- One course in English or a foreign language
- One course in philosophy
- One course in art, music, performance, or aesthetics
- One course in English or a foreign language
- One course in philosophy
- One elective chosen from the arts, aesthetics, foreign language, humanities, philosophy, or religion
- One course in American history or government
- Two electives, representing different disciplines, and chosen from economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, or sociology
- One science course
- One additional mathematics or science course
- Two courses approved by the adviser and selected from disciplines within the College of Arts and Sciences.
