Computer Science is one of the fastest growing disciplines in recent decades. As the worldwide computing industry will continue to grow well into the 21st Century, the problem-solving skills of computer scientists and their ability to manage computers and information while developing innovative new technologies will be constantly in high and increasing demand. There is a growing, buoyant job market that promises career opportunities for Computer Science graduates.

The Computer Science program at Maryville combines a strong curriculum in computer programming with vigorous, creative experience in hardware and software theories, providing in-depth study in a variety of subject areas of computing.

The program offers three options:

  1. a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science
  2. a certificate in computer science for immediate employment opportunities
  3. a minor in computer science

The Bachelor of Science degree program is available for both day and Weekend and Evening College students. The Bachelor of Science degree can be either tailored toward immediate employment in the industry or preparation for pursuing advanced degrees in Computer Science and related disciplines. Students who opt to pursue post-graduate studies in Computer Science after graduation are recommended to take MATH 152 and 320.

General Education Requirements:


  • One course in humanities
  • One course in art, music, performance or aesthetics
  • One course in history
  • One course in political science, psychology or sociology
  • One course in literature at the 300 level or above
  • One course in economics
  • One course in a foreign language
