Middle level students present special challenges as they transition from childhood to adolescence. The Middle Level Teacher Area of Concentration allows a practicing teacher to obtain a certificate in teaching grades 5-9 in the State of Missouri within the 30 credit hour Master of Arts in Education. Courses are theory-based with practical applications for the classroom and schools. The certification courses follow the guidelines of the National Middle School Association. The 30-credit course of study described below presumes teachers hold a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate and twenty-one hours in an academic area of concentration.
