Accounting Information Systems, B. S.

The Accounting Information Systems major meets the dynamic needs of students interested in careers as AIS professionals in fields such as information systems auditors, system assurance services, and small business accounting services. This degree addresses AIS in today’s global business environment with rapidly changing technology.

Students will develop skills that allow them to be involved in the Accounting Information System development process, from planning and analysis to design and implementation. Topics covered include accounting database design and development, business process analysis, accounting applications, internal control requirements, IT Audit and accounting requirements for the development of intelligent systems.
 

Business Core Requirement


All majors in the School of Business must complete a business core of 33-36 credit hours.

Note:


All majors in the School of Business must take a minimum of MATH 117 College Algebra.

Accounting Information Systems Major Optional Emphases


AIS students may also choose from two areas of emphases by taking an additional nine hours of specified elective courses:

  1. IT Audit Emphasis builds on the student’s understanding of AIS to focus in-depth on IT Audit areas including IT security and controls, internal audit and cyber forensics.  The IT Audit emphasis helps students prepare for the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) exam.  
  2. Small Business Accounting Emphasis focuses on the AIS needs of small businesses including small business accounting software, basic and advanced Excel features and business taxes.
