COMM 242 - FILM STUDIES: CRITICISM & APPRECIATION

Credits: Three
Motion pictures are one of the most pervasive and influential of the mass media in today’s society. Through the viewing of a number of films representing various cinematic genres (drama, comedy, western, adventure, horror, romance) students will be trained to develop an aesthetic appreciation for what distinguishes a good movie from a bad one, as well as to understand the important role that films play in shaping our culture and values.
Note: The accelerated Weekend and Evening College format of this course will be augmented by a faculty-prescribed one-credit independent learning experience.
