ENGL 127 - Early American Voices Credits: Three (3) This course will study major authors and literary movements from the Puritan Era to the end of the Civil War. By analyzing fiction, poetry, memoirs, and essays, we will trace the development of an American consciousness and identity from the 17th to the 19th century. Authors will include writers such as Bradstreet, Taylor, Edwards, Emerson, Hawthorne, Melville, Douglass, Whitman, and Dickinson.
