EDUC 646 - Curriculum Design that Supports Literacy in Content Areas - Focus on Secondary Schools Credits: 3 This course is focused on the elements of curriculum design that ensures all students have the necessary literacy skills to access curriculum in all content areas. The students will learn the various components of curriculum design including outcomes, assessments, and instructional practices that are appropriate for various contents and settings. The curriculum design will be based upon knowledge of the purpose of school and the development of preadolescent and adolescent learners. Students will explore best practices to embed discipline literacies and to provide appropriate differentiation within the curriculum. Students will become skilled at selecting appropriate texts related to their discipline as well as strategies to help students be able to use the texts to deepen their understanding of the content.
