ENGL 122 - American Realism and Modernism Credits: 3 This course studies novels, short fiction, poetry, plays, and essays by various writers of the late 19th and early 20th century. Major authors of this period are read in the context of the historical, cultural, and literary changes of the times; special attention will be devoted to the rise of modernism in American literature. Authors studied may include Kate Chopin, Henry James, Edith Wharton, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Marianne Moore, T. S. Eliot, William Faulkner, Eugene O’Neill, and others.
