NURS 205 - Pharmacology and Nursing Management Credits: 3 This course provides a comprehensive introduction to pharmacology, emphasizing the critical role of nurses in the safe and effective administration of therapeutic drugs. Students will explore common classifications of medications, their mechanisms of action, indications, and potential side effects, while considering the therapeutic and adverse effects of drugs used to manage acute and chronic illnesses. The course highlights the nursing implications of drug administration across the lifespan, integrating ethical, legal, and cultural considerations to ensure patient-centered care.
Additionally, students will examine the role of information technology in managing pharmacologic information and supporting clinical decision-making. Emphasis is placed on patient education principles to promote safe medication use, with a focus on cultural competence and ethical responsibility.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe, informed, and effective pharmacologic care in diverse healthcare settings. Prerequisite1: BIOL 102 , BIOL 104 , CHEM 120 (or equivalent) Corequisite1: NURS 201 (or prior)
