Sociology B.A.

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs

The Sociology curriculum provides students with an understanding of the guiding sociological principles that influence  human relationships in a complex society. The sociology program emphasizes applied, career-related experiences and an understanding of the pressing social issues and concerns of modern society. The curriculum is further molded by a desire to foster social awareness and a strong sense of civic and community responsibility. A minor is required for the B.A. in Sociology.

Due to the nature of its audience, the curriculum for the Sociology major offered in Maryville’s Weekend and Evening College format varies slightly from the traditional undergraduate curriculum. The WEC general education requirements retain the same focus and content but have different course restrictions and credit hours as affected by the 3-4 credit hour variances. Specific WEC major or minor requirements can be found in any WEC office.
