Interior Design, B.F.A.

The Interior Design program is a rigorous curriculum structured to facilitate development of a diverse, creative and competitive portfolio and prepare students for entry into the interior design profession. Both theory and practice are components of a thorough design education that includes research and visualization methods, computer technologies, architectural principles, sustainable design, human factors, color, lighting and business practice. All phases of the design process are addressed – programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration.

The program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).

General Education Requirements:


  • One course in music, music appreciation, music history, or aesthetics
  • One additional course in English or a course in foreign language
  • One course in philosophy
    (PHIL 325 or 420 recommended)
  • One history or government course
  • One additional course in economics, geography, history, political science, psychology or sociology
  • One science course
  • One additional course in science or mathematics
    (recommended PHYS 120 or ENV 112 or 375)
  • Two elective courses from any disciplines within the College of Arts and Sciences, except ADXX-listed courses.

Please Note:


Of the 132 credits required for this program, a minimum of 48 credit hours must be completed at the upperdivision level, and the last 30 credit hours must be taken at Maryville to satisfy requirements for graduation.
