The Maryville Actuarial Science program offers a curriculum that integrates the liberal arts with professional studies in business and mathematics, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Actuarial Science. Maryville is one of the few schools in the nation to offer a comprehensive degree program in Actuarial Science.
Prospective applicants should have a high aptitude for, and solid background in, mathematics and an interest in the world of business and finance.
Students admitted to the university in good standing may elect to be actuarial science majors.
The Actuarial Science major requires either: 1) passing one of the Society of Actuary (SOA) exams (P, FM, MLC, MFE, or C) by the time that 90 credit hours are accumulated; or b) an ACT sub-score in mathematics of at least 26. If neither of these requirements is met, students are automatically removed from the Actuarial Science major and placed in the Mathematical Modeling major.
Mathematical Modeling majors who pass an SOA exam (even after 90 credits have been accumulated) may, with the permission of the program director, become actuarial science majors - provided that they fulfill all other requirements of the Actuarial Science degree.
Transfer students must also fulfill one of the two exam passing options listed above: a) passing one of the SOA exams (P, FM, MLC, MFE, or C) by the time that 90 credit hours have accumulated; or b) an ACT sub-score in mathematics of at least 26.
