This transition program is designed for anyone looking to change careers and become a certified public accountant. Students first take foundational undergraduate course work in general business and accounting before joining our 30-hour Masters of Science in Accounting.

Designed for the new EvolutionCPA, students of this program will have a choice between the Business Analysis and Reporting concentration - typical for those who wish to go into audit or financial reporting – or the Information Systems and Controls concentration - for those who wish to consult, develop or audit the technology used by companies for accounting purposes.

EvolutionCPA is designed to better reflect the ever-evolving business landscape. Accountants are no longer glorified bookkeepers, they consult, audit, and collaborate with businesses on major financial decisions. As the business world relies ever more on technology, the CPA’s skills must grow to include an understanding of the related benefits and risks.

Note: BUS-501, Survey of Business, will be required as part of the foundational courses if the applicant’s GPA is below a 3.0 and/or if the applicant’s undergraduate degree was outside of the area of business, however, credits earned for  BUS 501 do not count toward graduate degree requirements.

This program, as are all programs at Maryville University, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).  Additionally, this program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) for regular business programs and separate accounting accreditation.

Foundational Courses

(39-45 credits)

The following foundational courses must be completed at either the undergraduate or graduate level before beginning the required courses. If all foundational courses have been completed at the time of acceptance, then students are accepted directly into the Master of Science in Accounting program.

However, if any one of the foundational courses has not been completed at the time of acceptance, then students are accepted into the Master of Science in Accounting Bridge program. Once all foundational courses are completed, students may begin the required Master of Science in Accounting courses.

Foundational course requirements may be waived if the applicant possesses an undergraduate degree in accounting. BUS-501, Survey of Business, will be required as part of the foundational courses if the applicant’s GPA is below a 3.0 and/or if the applicant’s undergraduate degree was outside the area of business.
