HIST 324 - African- American History Credits: Three (3) This course will introduce students to the major debates in African-American history from the early modern period to the present. Students will explore African-American identity and history through film, music, and an array of primary source documents. Some of the themes and topics that will be covered are: African life at the time of the arrival of European slavers; African resistance and cultural hybridization under slave conditions in the American colonies; the Civil War and Reconstruction; Jim Crow segregation; the Civil Rights movement; and contemporary African-American and Black culture and political activism.
