The BFA in Studio Art with Certification in Art Education and an MA in Education is intended for the student with a strong interest in studio art seeking a career in Art Education with a specific focus on teaching at the high school level. The program combines a rigorous studio concentration with courses in the School of Education leading to certification in teaching K-12. After completing the senior year, the student remains for an additional two semesters plus three courses to complete an M.A. in Education. The student is certified to teach at the end of the fifth year, the remaining three courses can be divided. Some can be taken during the summer between the fourth and fifth year and the remaining courses can be completed while the student is teaching. A student may enter the program while an undergraduate at Maryville University; see the School of Education section of this catalog for details.
