Master of Occupational Therapy, MOT (Post-baccalaureate)

The post-baccalaureate Master of Occupational Therapy degree is designed to prepare students as entry-level occupational therapy practitioners. Students who successfully complete the program are qualified to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam.

Admission Requirements

Beginning with the cohort entering in 2016, students will be admitted to begin the post-baccalaureate program in August each year.

Early Direct Admission

Students entering Maryville as freshman may qualify for early admission to the OT Program. Up to 50% of each entering graduate cohort will be reserved for early direct admission students. Priority for acceptance will be based on qualification scores and date of completed application.

Requirements for early direct admission include:

• High school cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
• Submit a resume that includes membership/leadership roles in high school
• Submit 2 letters of recommendations that provide examples of why the student would be successful in the OT Program

If a student is accepted for early direct admission that student must meet the following requirements to maintain their position in an entering class:

• Achieve minimum cumulative and semester GPAs of at least a 3.0 throughout undergraduate coursework at Maryville
• Earn at least “C” or better grades in all coursework that is prerequisite for the post-baccalaureate curriculum
• Submit documentation of at least 10 hours of observation of occupational therapy professionals in a minimum of 2 different practice areas

Traditional Admission (beginning Fall 2016)

To qualify for entry to the post-baccalaureate curriculum applicants must

1. Have completed a baccalaureate degree with minimum cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
2. Completed the following prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or better.
   • Human Anatomy & Physiology I
   • Human Anatomy & Physiology II
   • Oral Communications
   • General Psychology
   • Human Development Through Lifespan
   • Abnormal Psychology
   • Understanding Statistical Inference (Psychology or Math Statistics)
   • Introduction to Sociology or Anthropology
   • Medical Terminology
3. Complete the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
4. Submit an essay, resume, two letters of recommendation and documentation of at least 10 hours of observation with an occupational therapy practitioner(s).
5. International students must submit a minimum TOEFL score of 563. Applicants who take the revised TOEFL must achieve a speaking sub-core of 23, writing sub-score of 20 and reading and listening scores of 21 or higher, and a combined score of 85 or higher. Students not obtaining these scores are encouraged to contact LSI or ELS in order to contract with them for English proficiency classes.
6. Submit application through the Occupational Therapy Common Application System (OT-CAS).
