The Spanish Minor at Maryville University gives students a thorough foundation in the Spanish language and provides them with the cultural competence needed to engage successfully in a multicultural society. The minor requires 21 credit hours. Students are encouraged to integrate study abroad programs into their minor; the Center for Global Education will help students plan these programs. Students also will have the opportunity to intern with local firms, hospitals, and other organizations involved with Hispanic business, education, and culture.

Required Courses (15 credits)
- SPAN 201 - Intermediate Spanish I
- SPAN 202 - Intermediate Spanish II
- SPAN 301 - Advanced Spanish I
- SPAN 302 - Advanced Spanish II
- SPAN 303 - Advanced Spanish Conversation I
For students without any prior knowledge of Spanish, Maryville offers two elementary courses, SPAN 101 and SPAN 102.
For students who come to Maryville with significant knowledge of the language, some of the above courses may be waived (SPAN 201, SPAN 202, SPAN 301, or SPAN 302). If more than two courses are waived, the student will need to increase the number of required elective courses in order to meet the minimum credit requirement of 15 hours for the minor. Students who are interested in waiving one or more of these courses will need to speak to their Advisor, a Spanish instructor, or the Assistant Dean for the Humanities to complete an exception to registration form.
Elective Courses (at least 6 credit hours required)
Students may choose their electives from courses offered through Maryville University and from courses offered through international programs affiliated with Maryville:
