Health Science, B.S.


The Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree is designed to prepare students for entry into the Doctor of Physical Therapy. This degree also may prepare students for entry level generalist positions within health care services. No minor is required.
 

To obtain the BS in Health Sciences the student must:

Be accepted into the PT Program, and complete all courses outlined in the PT Degree Planning sheet for years 1-3.  This is the General Education requirements and the Core courses (HEPR) for the degree - a total of 98 credit hours.

AND

Complete year 4 courses required for PT program as outlined in the degree planning program to continue in the Doctor of Physical Therapy, D.P.T.  program.

OR

If a student withdraws from the PT program after starting in year 4*: 

  • Notify PT Program Director of intent to complete the BS Health Sciences 
  • Besides the 98 credit hours from the required courses in year 1-3, 30 more credit hours related to health services and approved by the PT Program Director must be completed. This includes 18 credit hours at the level 300 or higher and 12 credits at any level related to health services

* If a student withdraws from the PT Program before beginning year 4, the student will not be able to complete the BS in Health Sciences and will require a change of major.

Additional hours required for graduation are taken from upper division science and/or health courses. These courses should be approved by an advisor for students who are no longer part of the Physical Therapy program.

Students continuing the Physical Therapy program begin the coursework outlined on the Doctor of Physical Therapy, D.P.T.  page during their 4th year.

Graduation Requirements


  • 128 credit hours minimum (last 30 hours in residency)
  • A minimum half the major credit hours in residency
  • A minimum half the minor credit hours in residency
  • ​60 credit hours must be completed at a 4-year institution
