A minor in rehabilitation services will benefit undergraduates interested in the helping professions and individuals seeking to become a professional counselor. Course work emphasizes experiential learning in active listening, therapeutic communication, substance abuse treatment, career development, disability culture, and medical aspects of disability. Students completing the minor can seek employment in entry level human service agencies. All Maryville undergraduates who are in good standing and have completed at least 90 credit hours may take up to 12 graduate credit hours in Rehabilitation Counseling that count toward both the undergraduate and graduate degree. Students who wish to complete the remaining 36 credits of graduate course work must complete the Rehabilitation Counseling application process. The graduate Rehabilitation Counseling program is nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs and provides the educational preparation for Missouri Licensure as a Professional Counselor and national certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor. Additional coursework is available for specialization in marriage and family therapy, and substance abuse. Please contact the director of Rehabilitation Counseling at 314.529.9443 for more information regarding the program.
