EDUC 390 - Children’s Literature Credits: 3 This course is designed to help elementary and elementary/early childhood education candidates understand literature’s authentic and purposeful use in learning experiences. A focus is placed on engaging students in reading, discussing, creative responses, and critical literature analysis for children and young adolescents. An additional focus is placed on differentiation to meet the learner’s needs, along with strategies for expanding vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing processes. An emphasis is placed on issues of social justice and diverse points of view. This course, taken at the graduate level, requires additional readings and assignments.
