EDUC 665 - Family Systems/Issues

This course is designed to help early childhood teacher candidates develop various strategies and resources to use when working with young children and their families. A focus of the course is understanding the needs of students from racial/ethnic backgrounds as well as those from lower socio-economic environments and those with exceptional learning needs. Emphasis is placed on the problems and concerns affecting families, ways in which the school can support families in raising their children in developmentally appropriate practices, and how to advocate for families of children with special needs on the local and state level. This course, taken at the graduate level, requires additional readings and assignments.
